Tesla has announced the appointment of Jack Hartung, President and Chief Strategy Officer of Chipotle Mexican Grill, to its Board of Directors, effective June 2025. Hartung, who has been with Chipotle for over two decades, previously served as the company’s Chief Financial Officer. He will also join Tesla’s Audit Committee.
This addition expands Tesla’s board to nine members, including Chair Robyn Denholm, CEO Elon Musk, Kimbal Musk, and Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia. Hartung’s extensive experience in finance and strategic operations is expected to bolster Tesla’s governance as the company navigates a challenging year marked by declining global sales and increased scrutiny over its leadership structure.
Hartung is set to retire from his executive roles at Chipotle on June 1, transitioning to a senior advisory position. His appointment comes at a time when Tesla’s board is under heightened observation, following reports suggesting the search for a potential successor to CEO Elon Musk—claims that both Musk and Denholm have refuted.
