Samsung Electronics and Nvidia are preparing to invest in Skild AI, a Pittsburgh-based robotics startup focused on building foundation models for intelligent robots. The move underscores the tech giants’ growing commitment to AI-powered automation across real-world applications.

Skild AI, founded in 2023, is developing scalable software that allows robots to operate autonomously and adaptively in human environments. The startup aims to do for robotics what large language models have done for AI — create a foundation system that can be fine-tuned across industries and machines.

Nvidia, already a global leader in AI chipsets, continues to deepen its reach into software-defined robotics, offering full-stack solutions for edge-AI applications. Samsung, meanwhile, has been expanding its robotics ambitions, having become the largest shareholder of South Korea’s Rainbow Robotics in late 2024.

The strategic investment highlights the growing momentum behind AI-native robotics platforms — seen as the next major inflection point in enterprise automation, logistics, and consumer robotics.
