Intel is reportedly considering the sale of its networking and edge computing division, formerly known as the Network and Edge Group (NEX), as part of CEO Lip-Bu Tan’s strategy to streamline operations and concentrate on the company’s traditional strengths in PC and data center chips. The NEX unit generated $5.8 billion in revenue in 2024 but is no longer reported separately in Intel’s financials. While discussions are in early stages and no formal sales process has been initiated, the company has engaged with potential partners and consulted investment bankers regarding the potential divestiture.
This move aligns with Intel’s recent efforts to divest non-core assets, including the sale of a 51% stake in its Altera programmable chip business to Silver Lake for $4.46 billion in April 2025.
