FIFA Blockchain Migration Brings NFTs to New Chain

FIFA blockchain migration is underway as the global football federation announces the launch of its proprietary blockchain network. The new FIFA Chain, fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), promises improved scalability, enhanced performance, and more advanced features for digital asset management.

FIFA Collect Will Move from Algorand to FIFA Chain

FIFA Collect, the organization’s official NFT collection launched ahead of the 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia, will migrate from the Algorand blockchain to the newly introduced FIFA Chain. The collection was initially developed in collaboration with blockchain firm Modex.

No immediate user action is required. FIFA stated that the migration process will not begin before May 20. “Once the migration starts, we will provide clear step-by-step instructions on what you need to do,” the federation noted.

After the move, Algorand-based wallets such as Pera and Defly will no longer be supported. Instead, users will be able to access FIFA Collect using EVM-compatible wallets like MetaMask via WalletConnect.

Enhanced Functionality and Broader Adoption Expected

With the FIFA blockchain migration, the federation aims to take greater control over its digital ecosystem and foster broader adoption of its NFTs. By leveraging the widely used EVM standard, FIFA seeks to offer fans and collectors better interoperability, easier wallet access, and faster transactions.

This shift also aligns with FIFA’s long-term vision to position itself at the forefront of sports-based Web3 innovations. The migration is expected to bring more features to FIFA Collect, potentially including real-time match moments and interactive fan experiences.

FIFA’s move underscores a growing trend of major sports organizations establishing their own blockchain infrastructure to support next-gen fan engagement.
