Cardano Founder Warns Ethereum May Not Survive 15 Years
Charles Hoskinson predicts the death of Ethereum, saying the network could collapse within 10 to 15 years. During an AMA session on April 23, the Cardano founder cited structural inefficiencies, poor scaling, and governance challenges as critical weaknesses in Ethereum’s future.
Ethereum Faces User Exodus as Layer 2s Dominate
Hoskinson warned that Layer 2 networks will continue extracting most of the value, driving users away from Ethereum. “People will fight, and Vitalik won’t be able to hold it together with willpower alone,” he said. He believes Ethereum’s architecture makes long-term survival unlikely.
Architectural Mistakes and Self-Inflicted Problems
He sharply criticized Ethereum’s account model, virtual machine, and consensus. “These are self-inflicted wounds,” he claimed. Hoskinson said these flaws stem from misguided choices made by the Ethereum Foundation against community advice.
Technical Fixes Aren’t Enough
While Hoskinson welcomed Vitalik Buterin’s proposal to replace the Ethereum Virtual Machine with RISC-V, he emphasized that technology alone can’t solve Ethereum’s deeper governance issues.
Migration to Alternative Platforms is Underway
According to Hoskinson, users are already moving to alternative chains as Ethereum’s limitations become harder to ignore. He views the network’s decline as inevitable unless its core structure and governance drastically improve.
