The long-awaited MetaMask Solana support has officially arrived. The popular crypto wallet’s browser extension now allows users to connect to the Solana blockchain, enabling the trading of SOL-based tokens and seamless access to Solana’s decentralized applications (dApps).
This expansion marks the first time MetaMask natively integrates a non-EVM-compatible blockchain into its core interface — a move that signals broader multichain ambitions for the wallet.
MetaMask Solana Integration Expands Browser Features
Until now, non-EVM networks like Solana were only accessible via third-party Snaps plugins. This update eliminates the need for such workarounds. Now, users can directly swap, store, and manage Solana assets within the MetaMask browser extension.
“Solana is just the beginning,” the MetaMask team stated. “We plan to add more non-EVM networks in the coming months.”
Support for Solana within the MetaMask mobile app is also expected in the coming weeks, bringing full multichain capabilities to users on the go.
MetaMask Roadmap: Bitcoin Support and Native Token Incoming
In February, MetaMask developers revealed their intention to add Bitcoin network support by Q3 2025. That would allow users to store, send, and potentially swap BTC natively within MetaMask — a huge step toward interoperability.
In addition, MetaMask plans to launch its own native governance token, designed to “push the platform toward full decentralization.” Co-founder Dan Finlay noted on the “Crypto Beat” podcast that new U.S. crypto regulations have made it safer to launch various token types under clearer legal frameworks.
This shift could unlock a new wave of user-driven features and community governance, reinforcing MetaMask’s dominance as the world’s most used self-custody wallet.
What MetaMask Solana Support Means for Users
The new MetaMask Solana support opens the door for millions of existing users to participate in the Solana ecosystem without switching wallets or learning new platforms. Users can explore Solana-based NFTs, DeFi protocols, gaming platforms, and more.
By reducing the friction of cross-chain interactions, MetaMask is building the infrastructure for a more inclusive, multichain Web3 future.
