Migos Instagram Hack Targets Solana Co-Founder Raj Gokal

The Migos Instagram hack has erupted into a full-blown crypto scandal. On May 27, 2025, the hacked account of the former American hip-hop group Migos was used to post alarming content directed at Solana co-founder Raj Gokal. The attackers demanded 40 BTC, posting alleged KYC images and personal data in an effort to extort cryptocurrency from Gokal.

This case merges celebrity culture, blockchain security, and online threats — and underscores growing dangers in the world of crypto extortion.

Migos Instagram Hack: Inside the Attack

The Migos Instagram hack was carried out with precision. At least seven photos were uploaded before removal, two showing what appeared to be Raj Gokal holding a passport and ID. One post read, “you should’ve paid the 40 btc”, while another said, “it was only 40 btc… should’ve paid.”

Another image showed a woman, believed to be Gokal’s wife, also holding ID, alongside what looked like KYC documentation. Sensitive information including emails and phone numbers were displayed.

The boldness and detail in the posts suggest the attackers had access to private data — whether leaked or faked — making this a rare and disturbing case of social media crypto blackmail.

Crypto Extortion or Deepfake Operation?

The origin of the images remains uncertain. Experts suspect three main possibilities:

  • Exchange data leak

  • Direct hack of Gokal’s device or cloud

  • Sophisticated deepfake generation

Just days earlier, on May 20, Raj Gokal warned on X (Twitter) that someone was attempting to access his email and social accounts. This suggests the extortion attempt was planned in advance and that the hackers may have had prolonged access or used phishing techniques.

This pattern fits a growing trend of crypto extortion cases targeting high-profile individuals with personal data leaks.

Solana’s Response and Reputation at Stake

As of May 27, there has been no official comment from either Raj Gokal or the Solana Foundation. Their silence is prompting concern among the community, especially as Solana has worked to build a reputation for technical innovation and institutional trust.

The Migos Instagram hack is not just a PR disaster — it raises pressing questions about social media vulnerability, data protection, and the crypto industry’s exposure to cyber threats.
